Isolation Roses is a collection that I produced during the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. As we went into lockdown I was able to keep painting, an isolated activity inside or outside of a pandemic. It reminded me a lot of the time when I was a child, independence was limited as was social contact and for whatever reason I was quite a lonely child. I found these roses in my mother’s garden the scent of which took me back to my 5 year old self, in Australia, at the depths of my Great Aunt’s garden smelling the same, powerful, turkish-delight-flavoured roses. So for me these paintings bridge 2000 and 2020.
